THE ROLE

 

Based at the River Cree Resort & Casino and reporting to the General Manager with an indirect report to the Vice President of HR, this position’s role is to lead the Resort’s Human Resources function including accountability for driving progress towards superior customer service through the Casino’s COS (Circle of Service) program and to work and achieve the goal of attracting, developing, and retaining a talented, diverse workforce.

As a strategic thinker of a fully staffed HR team, you will be instrumental in the continuous development and leadership of the human resources function within the Resort to ensure that HR best practices are effective within all departments.  You will develop and implement plans focused on building teams and retaining employees.  You will work closely with leaders at all levels of the organization and provide direction regarding the impact of business decisions on associates. 

 

THE INDIVIDUAL

 

Given the significance of this position to the future growth and direction of the organization, the following skills and attributes are required:

 

Education                                                           

  • Human Resources Degree or Diploma or CHRP designation is an asset.

 

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years casino experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively complex human resources generalist experience in a medium to large organization with demonstrated experience in leading teams and assessing human resources services.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a human resources management role managing a team with direct reports.
  • Substantial HR experience demonstrating advanced knowledge of human resources best practices gained from multiple service sector hospitality environments
  • Demonstrated success in HR systems and HR Policy/Practice
  • Computer literate and proficient with HRIS
  • Managing an employee relations program to ensure compliance with policies, practices, AB Labour standards and human rights guidelines.

 

Personal Characteristics

  • A leadership style that will incite enthusiasm, provide vision, create positive morale, and model standards of professionalism.
  • Advanced written, verbal and presentation skills are necessary to support a diverse associate population as well as the growth of First Nations associates.
  • A track record of effective human resources decision-making and an “urgency to execute” attitude for this fast-paced environment.
  • A team player with a demonstrated positive attitude in a highly interactive group
