Position Description
GENERAL MANAGER
River Cree Twin Rinks - Canlan Ice Sports Corp.GENERAL
Reporting to the Vice President - Western Operations the General Manager will be responsible for Gross Revenues, Expenses and Net income targets as described in the Annual Operating Plan for the River Cree Twin Rinks location and approximately 20 dedicated full and part time staff in the facility. The Manager will work closely with senior management to ensure strategic business objectives are achieved.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIESCorporate Strategic Planning
Working with the Vice President - Western Operations and other members of the senior management team, acts as a catalyst in the development of a Strategic Plan that charts
the future course of the River Cree Twin Rinks location. The plan will be updated on an annual basis and will act as the framework in which the region is operated. The achievement of the key objectives in the plan specific to River Cree Twin Rinks operations and will be the primary responsibility of the General Manager.
Regional Planning
In conjunction with other members of the management team, leads in the development of strategic and operational plans. These plans will be developed in the context of the overall corporate strategic plan. Recommends to the Vice President - Western Operations the strategic and operational plans that will establish short, medium and long-term objectives, strategies, plans and budgets. Ensures that staff and financial resources are focused on the priority objectives established in the strategic and operational plans. Submits to the Vice President - Western Operations a monthly analysis of progress in achieving objectives, sets out a rationale for variances, and recommends modifications to the plan for the remainder of the year.
Leadership and Management
Provides strong and effective day to day leadership and management to all staff in order to foster an environment that encourages full contribution to the overall company objectives. Maintains a culture of teamwork, mutual support and respect. Provides leadership that enables staff to function as a strong and cohesive team. Stimulates, motivates, guides and directs staff to maximize their contribution to the operation of the facility and customer service.
OperationsEnsures that the facility is managed in a manner that contributes to the achievement of the objectives established in each facilities annual business plan. Manages over 20 employees and the operations of the following:
· These facilities include Two (2) full-sized NHL standard hockey rinks with long and short-term bookings for hockey leagues, figure skating, programs and ringette,
Concession and the Sports Store.
Organization & Management of the Facility
Maintains an effective organization structure that reflects the community of Enoch and Edmonton needs for services and responsibilities of the staff as they relate to the accomplishment of specific objectives set out in the Strategic Plan for River Cree Twin Rinks. Ensures the establishment of a clear definition of responsibility for each direct report, the ongoing management of staff including employee performance, each being carried out in a manner that will ensure the realization of the strategic and operational objectives.
Human Resource Leadership
Provides leadership to the staff to create an environment that will stimulate and motivate them to maximize their contributions to the realization of Canlan’s goals and objectives.
Market Research
Ensures the organization has a clear understanding of current market conditions and trends and has identified the target markets for revenue generating activities. In the process, develops an understanding of the market to which the company is selling, the prime competitors in the market, competitive pricing and product strategies and factors that influence buying decisions of each major customer group. Is responsible for initiating marketing research and for keeping current on all social, demographic or corporate trends that would impact River CreeTwin Rink’s ability to meet its objectives.
Communications
Collaborates with the management team to ensure consistency in the quality of programming and customer service throughout the River Cree Twin Rink operations. Works with the National Marketing Director and River Cree Marketing director to coordinate any communications initiatives and to develop appropriate marketing tools for increasing the visibility of the facility to potential sponsors and patrons.
Internal Relationships
Frequent contact with the Vice President - Western Operations and his management team regarding relevant facets of programming, events and activities. Develops effective working relationships and regular communications with the Vice President - Western Operations and other Facility General Managers in the Western Region and across the Canlan family.
External Relationships
Works to enhance the overall entertainment value for all those who use the River Cree Twin Rinks facilities (i.e. Edmonton Minor Hockey Association). Has a high profile both inside and outside the facility among customers and monitors their feedback regarding the nature and quality of services provided. Develops and maintains positive and productive relationships with existing and potential clients. Develops a high profile by taking an active role in appropriate business and professional associations.
Trends in the IndustryMaintains a familiarity with developments in the recreational/entertainment business to ensure Canlan has the best possible information to address and consider emerging opportunities and issues.
