Accounting Manager

THE COMPANY
River Cree Resort and Casino is a full-service/state of the art hotel and entertainment establishment located on the Enoch Nation (outside of Edmonton, Alberta). You will be involved in creating a culture based on outstanding customer service and customer loyalty.
THE ROLE
The Accounting Manager, reporting to the Financial Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting, The Accounting Manager supervises five staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, monthly and annual working paper preparation, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Accounting Manager will have contact with senior-level Managers and directors requiring strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
- Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
- Assist the Controller in the daily banking requirements.
- Supports budget and forecasting activities.
- Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Responds to inquiries from the Directors and managers regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
- Work with the Director of Finance and Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
- Supervise the accounts payable, revenue audit and general ledger group to ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
- Develop and maintain procedure manuals for accounting staff
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Performance management for direct reports
- Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
- Support Director of Finance and Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Maintain records in compliance with current legal requirements.
- Adhere to Resort Health and Safety Policies at all times.
- Any other duties as required by Management.
THE INDIVIDUAL
- Post secondary Accounting degree or diploma
- Newly designated accountant, or actively pursuing an accounting designation.
- Proficient user of MS Office applications, in particular Microsoft Excel.
- Prior Accounts Payable and General Ledger Analysis experience is required.
- Minimum 2 years work related experience.
- Experience within the hospitality or gaming industry an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Ability to multi task in a fast paced deadline driven environment.
- Self-starter comfortable working both in a team environment and independently.
- Detail oriented and a keen learner.
